A judge Friday issued a court order barring organizers from staging an international gay rodeo planned for this weekend at a private ranch 4 miles outside Fallon.

District Judge Archie Blake said Churchill County would be subject to “irreparable harm” if the event were held because organizers failed to present plans to handle traffic, sanitation and other problems associated with crowds.

It was the fourth time the rodeo organizers have been prevented from holding the event in Nevada this year. They were unsuccessful in leasing public facilities in Reno, Storey County and Fallon.

They hoped to hold the rodeo at the Lantry Ranch, which has an arena. But Judge Blake said the ranch had a business license only for a roping arena and was not suitable for a rodeo.

Dist. Atty. Kevin Pasquale denied that his suit for an injunction against the rodeo was based on sexual preference. He said it was brought strictly because of the concerns about health, traffic and safety at the arena area.
