Homegrown Ballet?

Share

I just attended the performances of “Swan Lake and “Romeo and Juliet” by the Moscow State Classical Ballet. What struck me was that a city like Moscow in a country like Russia has not one but two ballet companies.

Do we have a single local company here that could put on a full-length ballet performance? Shouldn’t we have our own locally based ballet, not only imported ones?

My suggestion is that Cynthia Gregory, Fernando Bujones and Stanley Holden might form such a company.

I recently talked to Cynthia Gregory, a native of Southern California, and broached this idea to her. I had the definite impression that she could be interested in undertaking such a task.

The time is now for the second largest city in the United States to loose it provincialism and grow up.
