Federal authorities investigating the crash of a small plane near Frederick, Md., were looking into whether the crash might be connected with the landing at about the same time of a jet carrying President Reagan and his wife, Nancy. The wreckage of a single-engine Piper Arrow was found in mountainous terrain west of Frederick. Officials said preliminary data from the FAA shows the Piper crashed about 20 minutes after the President’s plane, bound for Camp David, had been diverted to Frederick airport because of rain and fog. There had been speculation that the arrival of the President’s plane might have caused the smaller plane to be ordered into a holding pattern.
