Chapman College held ceremonies Monday at which the campus’s newly renovated Psychology Building was renamed “Smith Hall” in honor of the school’s former president, G.T. (Buck) Smith.

Smith resigned last May after serving as the college’s chief executive for 10 years.

Speakers at the dedication ceremonies praised Smith for his record of service, pointing out that he had helped raise the college’s endowment and had piloted the private, 4-year institution to national recognition.

The college’s Board of Trustees last month named Smith to the title of “president emeritus.” Smith, who still lives in Villa Park, is now an international consultant in higher education.
