Avon Products posted a third-quarter loss of $405.9 million, contrasted with a profit of $26.6 million in the 1987 period. The New York cosmetics company cited a previously announced $425-million after-tax provision for discontinued operations. Income from continuing operations, however, rose 8% to $22.4 million. Revenue in the period climbed 17% to $725.6 million.
