‘Insurance: Yes on 100’

Share

George’s lucid and useful expose of the confusing array of insurance initiatives helps to sift out the potential winners and losers of each proposition. His conclusion--to vote against them all--is sound, and indirectly he broaches the more important underlying issue: Why are “consumer” (or special interest) initiatives outpacing the state government in certain areas, bypassing the channels through which well-drafted, comprehensive and workable legislation should be produced?

Whether any of the initiatives are passed or not, the signal to state lawmakers to get moving on regulatory legislation in the true public interest is clear. Makeshift proposals laced with self-interest are not the long-term answer.
