Lockheed Corp. announced a “new thrust” under which it will begin to bid on major government computer contracts. The aerospace giant, based in Calabasas, cited its work in systems engineering, which the company said has “proven effective and reliable” in hundreds of complex computer projects. Lockheed called its interest in bidding for government contracts in the field of computers and computer systems “an outgrowth” of its work in space and ground systems, missiles and the Strategic Defense Initiative, popularly known as “Star Wars.”
