Sara Lee Corp.’s first-quarter profit climbed 22% from last year on a 14.6% revenue rise, which the Chicago firm attributed to strong sales in its food-services and packaged consumer products businesses. Net income rose to $75.6 million; sales climbed to $2.8 billion. Packaged foods, the company’s largest business segment, reported $1.2 billion in sales, up 8.3%. The Sara Lee Bakery segment of its packaged foods division posted a 9% unit volume gain, enjoying particularly strong sales in its international and bakery and delicatessen operations, the company said.
