Local News in Brief : Protester Arrested on Dumping Charge
A San Francisco man was arrested Thursday for for allegedly dumping a load of dirt at the site of a proposed hazardous waste incinerator in Vernon during a protest by environmentalists, police said.
The man drove up to the planned Bandini Boulevard home of the incinerator about noon and unloaded the pile of dirt, Police Capt. Louis Rosenkrantz said. Police arrested the man, whose name was not immediately available, on suspicion of illegal dumping and he was held in lieu of $500 bail.
About 75 protesters carried signs and chanted slogans at the site of the incinerator, Rosenkrantz said.
