A Department of Justice employee was suspended pending a criminal investigation into charges that he attempted to bribe a state Senate Rules Committee employee for a promotion. Alex John Vuckovich, 32, of Sacramento was arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor warrant charging that he offered money or other reward in return for a promotion or appointment. The committee makes appointments to various state boards and commissions. Justice Department spokesman Alan Ashby said Vuckovich holds a low-ranking position in the Bureau of Criminal Statistics. “He had no access to classified information, nor information that could compromise a law enforcement investigation,” Ashby said. The Senate employee or employees approached by Vuckovich responded appropriately to law enforcement officials, Ashby said.
