Presidential ‘Dirty Campaign’
Scheer’s article on Quayle must give many readers the incentive to have a second look at the sordid manner by which Bush and Quayle hope to win this coming election, with the help of Spencer.
The same Spencer, who was quoted by Newsweek, Aug. 29, as saying, “I think to get to Dukakis: You put a knife to his throat and keep it there for 60 days. He breaks, gets disoriented and reacts. If he does not break, he’ll win.”
This is the same Spencer, according to your article, who tried to make Nelson A. Rockefeller appear humble, Gerald R. Ford clever, Ronald Reagan informed and Manual Noriega democratic.
This “master manipulator” is now molding Bush and Quayle to look presidential.
When in the end Spencer has exhausted all his savage and guttersnipe methods, I might suggest, just to satisfy his insatiable appetite, that he buy and cultivate a lemon grove. With his experience, he should be extremely successful.
