Cambridge University dons have decided to eliminate sexist language from their historic rule book.

By a vote of 348 to 260, the dons--heads, tutors and fellows of the colleges--mandated that the words she , her and herself be added to he , his and himself entries in the university’s Statutes and Ordinances.

There were no women at the university when the Statutes and Ordinances was translated from the original Latin into English in the 1850s. Women now account for nearly half of the university’s population.
