A domestic airliner with 29 people aboard crashed today while trying to make an emergency landing in an open field, and a police officer said all but one passenger survived.

Authorities reported that five people were hospitalized and that at least 10 were treated for minor injuries and released. The police officer, Capt. Jerzy Pacula, said most passengers suffered only minor injuries. The Soviet-built, Antonov-24 twin-engine turboprop plane was on a flight from Warsaw to Rzeszow when it crashed in the village of Bialobrzegi, apparently because of mechanical failure, PAP news agency said.
