1980 Election ‘Hostage Tale’

Share

Doyle McManus really dug deep for The Times in his absurd attempt to link President Ronald Reagan and George Bush to an alleged deal blocking the 52 American hostages’ release until after Reagan was safely elected in 1980 (“Leads, Leaps of Faith in Hostage Tale,” Part I, Oct. 25).

Why would The Times write and print an article which, it admits in the opening paragraphs, has serious credibility problems? The answer becomes apparent if you believe that The Times is not interested in objectively reporting hard news, but instead wishes to cast a shadow upon Bush’s presidential bid, thus improving the steadily decreasing chances of success by the floundering Michael Dukakis campaign.
