Historical Museum to Open in Camarillo

When the Pleasant Valley Historical Museum makes its debut Sunday, miniature statues of cowboys, models of landmark buildings and mannequins in Spanish costumes will introduce spectators to their area’s past.

The museum, in Camarillo’s old Water Department building at 720 Las Posas Road, is the product of about 12 years of fund raising by the Pleasant Valley Historical Society. There are about nine exhibit cases and a few free-standing objects.

On display are Chumash artifacts, a 19th-Century pharmacist’s chemical bottles and machine for making pills, and everyday items from a turn-of-the-century home, said Dick Davis, a spokesman for the historical society.

Camarillo Mayor Tom Martin will dedicate the museum at 2 p.m., and an open house will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The museum will be open on weekends only, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
