Children’s Zoo
Your article on the redesigned children’s zoo at the Los Angeles Zoo, “Kid Stuff” (Metro, Oct. 25), quotes zoo officials proudly describing the barriers designed to keep the children from petting prosaic non-endangered farm animals; petting is now at “the animal’s option.”
Inasmuch as petting animals is the only thing most children would wish to do at a children’s zoo, we can only hope that they will settle for the hourlong lectures on molecular biology which the zoo staff has no doubt planned for their amusement.
