Burroughs Moves Past Burbank, 31-15

A share of first place in the Foothill League was at stake for Burbank and Burroughs on Friday night at Burroughs.

But Burbank, playing fast and loose, committed 7 turnovers to give Burroughs a 31-15 victory.

A Burroughs running back incorrectly was credited with a touchdown run in Friday’s game at Burroughs. Garrett Uribe scored on a 2-yard run in Burroughs’ 31-15 win over Burbank.

The win moved Burroughs (6-3, 3-1) into a first-place tie with Schurr and knocked Burbank (6-3, 2-2) into a second-place tie with Hart.

“The ball was slippery, but Burroughs definitely played good defense and hit well,” said Burbank Coach Randy Stage, whose team fumbled 5 times.

Burroughs quarterback Marco Arcipreste completed 7 of 13 for 139 yards and fullback Kevin Monaco rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown in 18 carries.

Burroughs led, 21-0, at halftime after taking advantage of a flea-flicker on the opening play and 2 turnovers later in the half.

Burbank cut the lead to 21-7 in the fourth quarter when quarterback Anthony Valento and Jim Cafferty connected for a 78-yard touchdown.

Burroughs put the game away 6 plays later on a 2-yard run by Chris Valento, set up by a 38-yard pass from Arcipreste to Steve Hubbell.
