Toronto, Montreal and Quebec will offer discount programs this winter.
In Toronto’s 1988-89 “Double Your Pleasure” promotion from Dec. 1 to Feb. 25 more than 40 hotels are offering 50% off regular rates on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Booklets with discount coupons for restaurants, sightseeing, stores and car rentals will be provided at check-in. Most of the coupons are two-for-one plans.
Montreal is offering a similar “Montreal, This Winter” program until April 1 with up to 50% off regular rates at more than 25 hotels on Thursday through Sunday nights. Most hotels give 50% off, but a few are offering smaller discounts.
Most of the coupons are the two-for-one variety, with some straight discounts off purchases and admission prices. Some gasoline stations also offer discounts.
You’ll also get coupons cutting the price of long distance telephone calls made from hotel rooms.
By using an American Express credit card to pay hotel bills, you will also get free passes to the Montreal Botanical Garden and a Marc Chagall exhibit that will be running at the Museum of Fine Artists.
VIA Rail Canada, as part of this promotion, is offering complimentary upgrades to first-class on a space-available basis for passengers buying two round-trip coach tickets for travel to and from Montreal from other cities, including Toronto, Quebec and Windsor.
This rail offer is good until April 2. To get the free upgrade you have to fill out a form that is included in the “Montreal, This Winter” brochure.
Copies are available from the Quebec Government Office, 700 S. Flower St., Suite 1520, Los Angeles 90017, (213) 689-4861.

Discounts will be offered at hotels, restaurants, ski centers, museums and sightseeing attractions and for car rentals from Nov. 24 to Feb. 2.
