Connie Chung Report

The article about Connie Chung, Asiam and Rice proves that negative campaigning is beginning to appear everywhere. Both Garry Abrams, the writer, and Tom Kagy, Asiam’s publisher, unprofessionally attacked Connie Chung and unfairly criticized Rice magazine.

In the article Tom Kagy and his writer, Isobel Silden, denounce Connie Chung’s Asian-American perspective and sense of responsibility. Is there only one right perspective and sense of responsibility toward an ethnic or cultural identity/group?

Asiam’s December profile is going to lambaste Connie Chung’s attitude toward being Asian, because she didn’t jump at the chance to be the magazine’s December profile. Is that the primary criterion for evaluating the proper Asian-American perspective and sense of responsibility?

Finally the article would have been more interesting and relevant if the writer had fairly analyzed the difficulties of publishing an Asian-American or Pacific Rim magazine. Abrams reports only Rice’s problems without mentioning Asiam’s problems, which had included a very sexist/cheesecake approach and incoherent articles.
