‘Beetlejuice,’ ‘E.T.’ Top Rental List

Since it’s so hard to find copies of the super-discounted “E.T.” for sale, some frustrated fans are resorting to renting it. Consequently, “E.T.” debuted on the Billboard magazine rental chart at No. 2. Also, in its second week on the sales chart (which measures sales to retailers and distributors), “E.T” rocketed to the top spot, which will likely be its home for the next few months. Apparently many home-video fans spent their Halloween weekend howling with laughter at the creepy/funny “Beetlejuice,” which bounded to the top of the rental chart.

* So far, this gloomy Michael J. Fox melodrama is performing according to expectations, bolting up to No. 12 in just two weeks. It could make the bottom half of the Top 10.
