Monterey Park : Library Policy Assailed

Share

The City Council is ignoring a Los Angeles Superior Court judge’s ruling at the expense of library operations, according to the lawyer for ousted members of the city’s library board.

J. Craig Fong, who represents the Friends of the Monterey Park Library and three ousted board members, said he will file a motion today to require the city to comply with the May ruling of Judge Ricardo A. Torres. The judge had ruled that the council overstepped its authority by replacing the library board with a less powerful advisory panel.

“They have not complied with the judge’s order,” Fong said of city officials. “They are harming the library and there is no excuse. There’s irreparable harm going on right now.”
