Maxicare Health Plans Inc. has signed a letter of intent to sell the stock of one of its Southern California health plans, Family Health Services, to General Medical Acquisition Corp. The unprofitable plan serves 88,000 members in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. Maxicare has an additional 350,000 members in Southern California. Maxicare said it does not anticipate receiving any cash proceeds from the sale, which is expected to close in 30 to 60 days.
