A Swedish cruise line company completed a $6-million deal with the provincial government to buy the British Columbia Steamship Co., after several weeks of doubt about a duty the federal government wanted to charge.

B.C. Stena manager Lars Nilsson has made the first payment--for $2 million--to Finance Minister Mel Couvelier.

B.C. Stena will operate the Princess Marguerite and Vancouver Island Princess on the tourist run from Seattle to Victoria.

It will also import a third ship in 1990 to cruise the route year-round, and start a Vancouver-Victoria run in 1990.
