‘Real Test’ Begins for George Bush

Share

The question has been asked by political analysts for two decades or more whether a single person, the President, can lead a country so vast and increasingly complex as the U.S. and do justice to both domestic and foreign issues. I submit that the people of America have answered the question with a resounding no and thus have elected two “presidents.”

President-elect Bush was seen as more competent to lead in the international arena while a Democratic Congress was elected as a second “president” to lead, protect and defend domestic concerns. It remains to be seen whether these two “presidents” can follow Jean Baptiste Colbert’s advice in solving our enormous national debt problem by delicately applying the “art of taxation which consists in so plucking the goose as to get the most feathers for the least hissing.”
