For viewers who don’t get enough bikini action on “Eye on L.A.,” Time Inc.-owned Home Box Office and Sports Illustrated magazine have collaborated on a new full-length video documentary of the magazine’s immensely popular annual swimsuit issue. The program, titled “Sports Illustrated: The Making of the Swimsuit Issue,” features the competition in places like Aruba and the Great Barrier Reef among supermodels such as Carol Alt, Elle Macpherson and Christie Brinkley for pages in the magazine. The documentary, directed by Albert Maysles (who did “Gimme Shelter”), premieres on HBO sometime in February, 1989. The program will also come out on video with the title “Sports Illustrated’s 25th Anniversary Swimsuit Video.” The cassettes will feature different models in a slightly different format. Release date: Feb. 10. Retail price is $19.99.
