Roger Ailes, President-elect Bush’s campaign media adviser, says times have changed in journalism. Talking about coverage of this year’s presidential campaigns, he says that “somebody’s got to write the story pretty soon that the media have been trapped in the bubble,” and now they’re part of the process. “What you had at the second presidential debate (last month) were the media interviewing each other. They’re the stars. They’re part of the debate. You’re sitting there watching media people interview each other about the world. That’s different than the old days.” Ailes’ thoughts, tape-recorded before last week’s election, came in an interview from an upcoming issue of the Gannett Center Journal, published by the Gannett Center for Media Studies in New York.
