Canada’s emotional election campaign, fueled by debate over the free trade pact with the United States, headed into the final week with the ruling Progressive Conservatives and opposition Liberals locked in a dead heat. The latest Gallup poll showed both major parties with 35% and the New Democratic Party with 26%. The findings are in marked contrast to last week’s poll, which showed the anti-free trade Liberals with a commanding 12-point lead.
