A management-led group at San Diego-based National Steel & Shipbuilding Co. is negotiating to buy the financially troubled company from Boise, Ida.-based Morrison Knudson Corp., NASSCO Vice President Fred C. Hallett said. Negotiations are in a “very preliminary stage,” Hallett said. NASSCO’s management team has hired a Los Angeles-based law firm to study financing options. NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morrison Knudson since 1979, reported $29.6 million in operating losses during the past two years.
