The remnants of one massive storm spawned a tornado that destroyed several mobile homes in North Carolina and a second storm came of age in the West, clogging Oregon’s mountain passes with up to 16 inches of snow. The remnants of a powerful storm that killed at least 19 people in a six-day march from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Ocean took one last swipe, spawning a tornado over North Carolina’s northeast coast that destroyed at least seven mobile homes and tore the roofs off several houses. Sheriff’s deputies at Creswell, N.C., said an elderly woman was injured and her home was destroyed when the twister touched down.
