The Nation

About 300 anti-abortion activists were arrested during demonstrations nationwide at abortion clinics and doctors offices. About 125 were arrested in Buffalo, N.Y.; 100 in Hartford, Conn., and 70 in Birmingham, Ala. Most of the demonstrators were supporters of Operation Rescue, which held protests in about two dozen cities on Oct. 30. Those demonstrations were linked to a continuing abortion protest in Atlanta that began when the Democratic National Convention was held there in July and has resulted in about 1,200 arrests. In Buffalo, the protesters were charged with trespassing after they blocked entrances at the office of a gynecologist who performs abortions. In Hartford, about 250 demonstrators marched outside the Hartford Gynecological Center clutching rosary beads, chanting prayers and carrying signs proclaiming: “Abortion: Dial A for Murder” and “Give the Unborn a Chance.”
