Portland Eliminates UCLA in NCAA Soccer Regional, 2-0

UCLA was eliminated from the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer playoffs Sunday, losing to No. 2-ranked Portland, 2-0, in the Division I Far West Regional final at Portland.

The Pilots (20-0) scored 2 second-half goals past UCLA goalie Anton Nistl to end the Bruins’ 13-game unbeaten streak.

After a scoreless first half, Portland’s Trent Schultz scored off a Scott Benedetti assist at 54:02. Portland scored again at the 77:41 mark on Ian McLain’s shot. McLain caught Nistl in the penalty kick area after taking a pass from Wade Webber.

The Bruins (13-5-4) were shut down by Pilot goalie Kasey Keller. The Pilots outshot UCLA, 15-13.
