Media General Inc. said it had agreed to sell its broadcast services unit, a leading buyer of radio and television time for advertisers, to the senior managers of the operation. Terms of the sale, which is expected to be completed by January, 1989, were not disclosed, but Richmond, Va.-based Media General said it planned to take an after-tax charge of $35 million to $40 million on the sale in the fourth quarter. Donald B. Miller, who has headed the broadcast services unit since 1986, will be chairman and chief executive of the new company, which has interest in newspapers, broadcasting and cable television.
