Peete Finally Able to Speak for Himself

Rodney Peete has broken through the sound barrier. The USC quarterback, bothered by laryngitis, talked with reporters Wednesday in a conference call.

Peete hasn’t been able to call signals in practice, leaving the voice-over to freshman quarterback Todd Marinovich, who has been standing behind him.

“My voice came back a little bit last night,” Peete said, “and I should be able to call signals by tomorrow.”

Last week it was the measles, this week it’s laryngitis. A medical bulletin every week.

“It’s the strangest 2 weeks of my life,” Peete said. “I’ve never seen so much attention paid to the measles.”

There was never any doubt that Peete would play against Notre Dame Saturday at the Coliseum. Now, though, he can talk about it.
