The UCLA women’s basketball team will open the season tonight against No. 16 North Carolina State in the National Women’s Classic at Cincinnati. The Bruins will play either No. 4 Georgia or Cincinnati Saturday night.

UCLA, which enters the season unranked, is expected to debut a relatively inexperienced lineup and a new up-tempo game. Molly Tideback, the Bruins’ prize recruit from Waterloo, Iowa, is expected to start in the post.

North Carolina State returns seven players, including guard Andrea Stinson, who sat out last season for academic reasons. Kay Yow, the Wolfpack coach, coached the 1988 U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team to a gold medal in Seoul.
