Pepperdine Loses Opener to Texas
Forward Alvin Heggs scored 20 points Friday night to lead Texas to an 82-79 victory over Pepperdine in the first round of the Hawaii Tipoff Classic at the University of Hawaii.
Both teams were playing under first-year coaches--Tom Penders for Texas and Tom Asbury for Pepperdine.
Pepperdine was led by guard Shann Ferch, a transfer from Montana State, with 20 points. Tom Lewis had 15 points, Craig Davis 12 and Casey Crawford 10.
Pepperdine will meet the loser of the Montana State-Hawaii game, being played later Friday, in Sunday’s consolation game.
