Dali Placed in Intensive Care

Surrealist painter Salvador Dali, ailing with pneumonia and heart problems, was rushed from a small town hospital to an intensive care unit in Barcelona today when he suffered breathing problems, his doctors said.

The 84-year-old painter was taken by ambulance from the Figueres Hospital to the Quiron Clinic in Barcelona, 75 miles south of the town of Figueres. A spokesman at the Figueres hospital said Dali suffered sudden respiratory problems this evening after being hospitalized for pneumonia Sunday night. Doctors said the pneumonia, brought on by a cold, had also caused aninsufficient flow of blood to the left side of Dali’s heart.
