The body of a man who had been missing for a week was found Tuesday afternoon floating in Lake Huntington in Huntington Beach Central Park, police reported.

Timothy Blair Hans, 32, of Weed in Northern California, was believed to be the victim of an accident or suicide, Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Val Birkett said.

Hans had gone fishing at the lake with a friend Nov. 22. His friend left for a few minutes and when he returned, Hans was gone, although his dog and belongings remained at the shore, Birkett said.

A missing person’s report was filed the following day when Hans could not be found.

While police searched the park again Tuesday and Huntington Beach lifeguards prepared to dredge the 5-acre, 20-foot-deep lake, Hans’ body surfaced about 20 feet from the shore in the same area where he had last been seen, Birkett said.

“There is no evidence of trauma to the victim, and foul play is not suspected at this time,” he said. An autopsy was scheduled for today.

Hans had been suffering from Hodgkin’s disease, a malignant disorder of the lymph nodes, and his health had been deteriorating, Birkett said.
