In the wake of voter approval of an education spending initiative, state schools chief Bill Honig announced today that he will seek reelection in 1990 to a third four-year term.

Honig, a Democrat, said at a Capitol news conference that he had thought seriously about seeking the governorship in 1990 but decided against it. “We went to the voters with Proposition 98,” he said. “I feel that I made a pledge to them to be in on the implementation of that.” Prop. 98, which passed by a vote of 50.8% to 49.2%, requires a minimal level of state funding for schools and will transfer part of future budget surpluses to education.
