Paramount : Teachers to Be Used in Bilingual Mentor Program

Share

The Paramount Unified School District has launched a program in which teachers will serve as mentors to students who intend to become bilingual teachers of math and science.

Twenty-three teachers have agreed to participate in the Hada Madrina/Padrino Program (Guardian Angel or Godmother/Godfather) project. The teachers will assist 23 instructional aides in pursuing a teaching career. Help will include tutoring, counseling and applying for college scholarships and grants. All of the students work in the district as instructional aides.

The district along with the Santillana Publishing Co. of Los Angeles will be host to a dinner Friday for all of the participants.

The program’s intent is to help supply the district, which is more than 80% Latino, with needed bilingual teachers.
