What gives with the Bangles? Expected to be one of the hit albums of the holiday season, their “Everything” hasn’t done much at all. It’s being hanging out in the 40s on the Billboard magazine chart--No. 44 this week. For a high-flying band like this, the 40s is the low-rent district. What’s surprising about the slow album sales is that the group has a hit single, “In Your Room”--No. 14 and a good bet to make the Top 10. “American Dream,” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, is off to a strong start--No. 31 after three weeks.

* Teen queen Tiffany follows up her smash debut album with another collection of tunes chronicling the ups and downs of post-adolescent romance. The new “Hold an Old Friend’s Hand”-- an improvement on the first one according to some critics--entered the chart at No. 63 and could take a big jump next week.
