Controversy Over Toxic Incinerator
I take exception to our local and federal governments’ priorities.
There will be no environmental impact study of the Vernon hazardous waste incinerator to be built in an area heavily populated by poor and working-class blacks and Hispanics.
Yet an environmental impact study will be done in a middle to upper-middle class area to identify and to mitigate the adverse effects of traffic noise caused by the rehabilitation of the Pan Pacific Auditorium (Metro, Nov. 16).
The threat posed by carcinogens in the air of many outweighs the impact of traffic noise to a few.
