Oates Didn’t Give Irish Enough Credit

Regarding the Bob Oates column (Sunday, Nov. 27) about the Notre Dame-USC game, it is a tribute to the kind of writer he is. He is full of sour grapes when his team loses. He says USC receivers are too slow to get open and pull away from single coverage but said nothing about the speed and ability of the Notre Dame defensive backs.
He says Notre Dame could not line up and play conventional ball with USC. They beat the toad out of the Trojans. The big SC line could not handle the quicker Irish linemen and linebackers.
Being smarter and taking advantage of the other team’s weakness is part of the game. Also, if you take a look, it has happened six consecutive times. You said nothing about the fierce hitting of the Irish defense that caused most of these so-called bad breaks. The only bad thing about this game is the columns written by boneheads like you.
