Share

A man and woman on Kansas’ most-wanted-fugitives list were arrested Saturday night after Santa Ana officers stopped them in a car that had been reported stolen, police said Sunday.

After running a routine identification check, police found that a no-bail warrant had been issued for the couple, Laura Jean Pine and William J. Pine Jr., both 37, for alleged drug violations in Kansas City, Kan. Police do not know whether the couple are husband and wife.

The couple were arrested shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday near Pine and Flower streets after two officers saw them in a suspected drug transaction with someone on the street, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Doyle Smith said.

The car had license plates from San Diego, but a computer check showed it had been reported stolen from Phoenix, Smith said.

Syringes and a small amount of cocaine were found inside the car, Smith said.

The couple had been staying at a Santa Ana motel. Smith said police do not know how long the couple have been in the county.

They were held at Orange County Jail on the fugitive warrant and on suspicion of possession of a stolen car and possession of drugs, Smith said.

They were being held without bond pending an extradition hearing, he said.
