NEW YORK — In the final auction Sunday of pop artist Andy Warhol’s estate, auctioneers sold $1.6 million in unmounted gemstones, jewelry and watches found hidden in a filing cabinet at his Manhattan townhouse.
About 400 people attended the auction, Sotheby’s spokeswoman Laura Stewart said. Warhol died of a heart attack in February, 1987, after a routine gallbladder operation at New York Hospital.
