Jimmy Carson’s third goal of the game ignited a four-goal Edmonton outburst late in the second period as the Oilers beat the New York Rangers, 10-6, Sunday night at Edmonton.
Carson, traded to the Oilers in the deal which brought Wayne Gretzky to the Kings, scored on 3 of his first 4 shots to extend his goal-scoring streak to 7 games. He has 12 goals in that span.
Esa Tikkanen added 2 goals and an assist and Charlie Huddy had 1 goal and 2 assists. Norman Lacombe, Jari Kurri, Craig Simpson and Mark Messier each had 1 goal for the Oilers.
The last time the Oilers scored 10 goals was Dec. 6, 1987 when they beat Minnesota, 10-4.
Brian Mullen and Kelly Kisio each had 2 goals for the Rangers with Chris Nilan and Tomas Sandstrom getting single goals. Guy Lafleur had 4 assists, equaling his career single-game high.
Calgary 6, Winnipeg 3--Gary Roberts scored two second-period goals as the Flames won at Winnipeg for the first time in nine games dating back to March 10, 1986.

Philadelphia 6, New Jersey 2--Rick Tocchet’s goal broke a 2-2 tie as the Flyers scored four second-period goals to defeat the Devils at Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, 3-0-1 in its last 4 games, went ahead to stay when Tocchet, who has 8 goals and 8 assists in his last 10 games, tipped in a Gord Murphy slap shot on the power play at 9:26 of the second period. It was one of 4 power-play goals for the Flyers in the game.
The Devils are 0-7-1 in their last 8 games.
Boston 3, Pittsburgh 3--Rookie defenseman Zarley Zalapski skated the length of the ice and scored with 2:04 remaining as the Penguins rallied to tie the Bruins.
The goal preserved a 6-game unbeaten streak for the Penguins.
