Winless CS Long Beach to Play Host to Unbeaten USC in Men’s Basketball

Though the USC men’s basketball team is off to its best start in 9 years with a 4-0 record, Trojan Coach George Raveling said it’s premature to celebrate.

“I’m cautious enough to understand that because we’re 4-0, it’s no time to go down to the supermarket and buy any champagne,” Raveling said. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

The Trojans play winless Cal State Long Beach (0-3) at 7:30 tonight in the Long Beach Arena. The 49ers lost to Brown, 62-61, in the Amana-Hawkeye Tournament Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa.

The 49ers defeated the Trojans, 85-66, last season at the Sports Arena.

“The mistake we made with the Long Beach game last year was that we went into it as just another game on the schedule, but they went into it as the game on the schedule,” Raveling said. “It was their Super Bowl, their Rose Bowl. They saw this as an opportunity to make some headway in Southern California and gain some attention. That game might have turned their season around. I don’t think we’ll make that mistake this year and look at it as just another game.”
