Local News in Brief : Woman Sentenced for Baking Parrot
A woman who baked her boyfriend’s parrot in an oven after an argument was sentenced Monday to 30 days in County Jail and three years’ informal probation.
The woman, Guadelupe O. Rodriguez, 25, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Bernard Kamins on her Sept. 27 guilty plea to a charge of felony animal cruelty.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Ken Marks said Rodriguez killed the bird March 15 after an argument with her boyfriend, Robert Carballo, at their Hancock Park apartment. After Carballo left the residence, Rodriguez, who was pregnant with his child, killed his yellow-cheeked Amazon parrot, Ringo, by placing it in a covered pot in an oven heated to 450 degrees.
