Gorbachev, Castro Held Likely to Sign Friendship Pact
Mikhail S. Gorbachev and Fidel Castro are likely to sign a Soviet-Cuban friendship treaty when the Kremlin leader visits Havana this weekend, Soviet sources said Tuesday.
They said the text of a treaty, similar to accords the Soviet Union has with all its other Communist allies other from Laos, had been under discussion for some months and should be ready for the two presidents’ final approval.
Gorbachev, who arrived in New York on Tuesday to address the United Nations and meet President Reagan and President-elect George Bush, flies on to Havana on Friday for three days of talks with Castro.
