San Diego Student Heading to Washington

Share

Erica Rowe, a senior at Gompers Secondary School in Southeast San Diego, is one of two California high school students named to the 1989 U. S. Senate Youth Program in Washington by state schools Supt. Bill Honig.

Rowe has won many honors at the special all-magnet science and math school, as well as working part time at the Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species at the San Diego Zoo. She hopes to become a physician specializing in neurosurgery.

Rowe will join 103 other students--two from each state, the District of Columbia and overseas schools for Defense Department dependents--for a week in Washington next month to observe the federal government. Each delegate also will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship to study American government and related subjects through grants from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
