Barry Sanders of Oklahoma State, who broke Marcus Allen’s NCAA single-season rushing record, has had 75 yards added to his 1988 total, making the record officially 2,628 yards.
NCAA officials, after viewing films of Oklahoma State’s 45-42 victory over Texas Tech at Tokyo Saturday, ruled that 2 swing passes thrown to Sanders, the Heisman Trophy winner, actually were laterals because they were not thrown forward.
“It’s legit. There’s no problem with it as far as the NCAA is concerned,” said Steve Boda Jr., associate director of statistics for the NCAA, of the change.
